Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
In No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Chris Braswell at par in Round 2, Pick 2, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
D.J. James at pick No. 69 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Roman Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Audric Estime at pick 98 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at the 124th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Omar Speights at slot 212 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Matthew Jones in pick No. 226, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Chad Lindberg in No. 245 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
