The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Gerry Bohanon, taking him 267 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Singleton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in Round 2, Pick 14, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at slot 54 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Alfred Collins in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darien Porter. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Jayden Higgins in No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at No. 110 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Majors at pick 137 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dont'e Thornton Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Nicholas Singleton all the way to slot 152, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gerry Bohanon in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DJ Campbell at the 171st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
