They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will need Sinnott to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christian Haynes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 40 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Ben Sinnott at the 103rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Andru Phillips was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 6, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in Round 6, Pick 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
