You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Bishop at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

In pick 24 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ricky Pearsall at pick No. 56. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Blake Fisher at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cole Bishop at the 117th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Will Shipley slipping to the 129th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in No. 244, where Bub Means graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
