When a board-topper like Tyler Shough slides to pick 170, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not.
Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, TreVeyon Henderson at No. 53 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Bond in Round 3, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at the 84th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Jordan Phillips, who had no business lasting to the 117th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Emery Jones Jr. in pick 149 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyler Shough in pick No. 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dorian Strong slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 174 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ajani Cornelius reach the 188th overall pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Oronde Gadsden II at No. 211 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Shilo Sanders. It adds depth where they could use a little.
