The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Connor Lew, the Round 4 slot, roughly 37 picks past where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Every board in the league had Gumbs Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a mismatch in the passing game. A real need, handled.
Jake Slaughter at No. 45 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ted Hurst at Round 3, Pick 16 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Treydan Stukes was still sitting there in the 115th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Connor Lew at slot 119 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
George Gumbs Jr. at the 154th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kage Casey in pick No. 162 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 173, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached into another round for Aaron Graves, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Keyshaun Elliott at Round 6, Pick 30, and it noticed. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
