This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tyler Shough, the No. 142 name on the board, stolen at No. 190. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Roquan Smith gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Reaching for Bond left real value on the table behind him.
In the end it comes back to Mykel Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Isaiah Bond in pick 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in No. 59, with Kaleb Johnson worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Dylan Sampson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 76. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Emery Jones Jr. in Round 5, Pick 11, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 170th pick, where RJ Harvey graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jonah Monheim slid further than he should have, and slot 172 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bhayshul Tuten at the 174th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Tyler Shough at pick No. 190 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in slot 211: Jack Kiser for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 249th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
