You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Tyler Harrell in the Round 7 slot. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
On value alone, Lassiter makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.32
· Pick 32
· Chop Robinson
· DE-EDGE
· rank 22
In slot 32 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9
· Pick 41
· Payton Wilson
· LB
· rank 52
Payton Wilson at No. 41 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.15
· Pick 47
· T.J. Tampa
· CB
· rank 48
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.26
· Pick 58
· Kamari Lassiter
· CB
· rank 40
Kamari Lassiter in the 58th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.32
· Pick 64
· Trey Benson
· RB
· rank 89
Value said wait; Trey Benson in the 64th overall pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.25
· Pick 88
· Max Melton
· CB
· rank 78
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Max Melton for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28
· Pick 91
· Calen Bullock
· S
· rank 84
Calen Bullock at pick No. 91 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.26
· Pick 126
· Beaux Limmer
· C
· rank 128
Beaux Limmer in pick 126 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.33
· Pick 169
· Tanor Bortolini
· C
· rank 187
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanor Bortolini well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
R6.27
· Pick 202
· Garret Greenfield
· OT
· rank 216
Garret Greenfield at the 202nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.44
· Pick 219
· Ryan Flournoy
· WR
· rank 203
They read the board right and Ryan Flournoy was the payoff at slot 219. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.25
· Pick 245
· Sam Hartman
· QB
· rank 258
A reach on Sam Hartman in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.35
· Pick 255
· Tyler Harrell
· WR
· rank 360
A wild overpay on Tyler Harrell in Round 7, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
