The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kurtis Rourke fell into pick 171. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Omarion Hampton in slot 44, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Bond in the 76th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in No. 115 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Darius Alexander reach the 149th pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at pick No. 170 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kurtis Rourke in Round 5, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in pick 211, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Cody Lindenberg in slot 247, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
