Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent pick No. 90 on Jaheim Bell, a name most had 45 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Puni at that price is a win they earned.
Adding Jaire Alexander by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jaheim Bell at pick 90 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Dominick Puni at pick No. 126 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
