The Kingsley Suamataia selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 23 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. at pick No. 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kingsley Suamataia well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Michael Hall Jr. at No. 68 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Malik Washington in the 102nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dillon Johnson in the 179th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Trey Knox went about where he belonged in the 231st pick. The roster fit checks out.
