You build a draft on nights like this. Kamari Ramsey had no business being available in the 121st overall pick, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Every board in the league had Orange lower, and that gap is the story.
The Steelers indulged a want in Davis while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value.
A big swing on Domonique Orange at pick No. 53, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chase Bisontis in slot 76 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A conviction pick on Ja'Kobi Lane at the 85th pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Keionte Scott at pick 99 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamari Ramsey in the 121st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, J.C. Davis adds an offensive lineman and leaves edge rusher, running back and other spots untouched.
A tidy little value on Drew Allar in Round 5, Pick 21, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aiden Fisher a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Kendrick Law all the way to pick No. 224, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jeremiah Wright at pick 230 is the proof. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TJ Hall in the 237th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
