Dallas Cowboys

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

Future B-

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 34 spots for Xavier Thomas, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wilson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.24 · Pick 56 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 53
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 56 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 72
Trey Benson at the 66th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 76
Junior Colson in the 71st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 89
No edge and no loss on Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 82
Roman Wilson at pick 90 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · James Williams · S · rank 130
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 170
Roger Rosengarten at pick 174 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.32 · Pick 207 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 204
Nothing to complain about; Myles Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 246
Xavier Thomas at pick No. 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 265
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
