Detroit Lions

The Lions let Taaffe fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Somebody in slot 103 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while Michael Taaffe, the No. 68 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 8
In pick No. 17 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 31
The board fumbled CJ Allen all the way to Round 2, Pick 19, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Michael Taaffe · S · rank 68
They will replay Michael Taaffe at the 103rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 90
Somehow Bryce Lance was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Logan Jones · C · rank 91
They barely believed it either: Logan Jones still on the board at No. 119. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.17 · Pick 157 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 132
Steal is underselling it; Oscar Delp at the 157th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Kage Casey · OT · rank 160
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 179 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.24 · Pick 205 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 184
They robbed the room for DJ Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.32 · Pick 213 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 188
Taylen Green in pick No. 213 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Jalen Stroman · S · rank 202
Jalen Stroman at pick 218 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
