The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Alfred Collins fell into pick No. 241.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Walter Nolen in No. 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Wyatt Milum was still sitting there in pick 78, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Dylan Fairchild at Round 5, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jahdae Barron at the 159th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at pick No. 168. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 170th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a running back like Nicholas Singleton reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to slot 189, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Alfred Collins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kurtis Rourke at pick 248 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
