You build a draft on nights like this. Jack Nelson had no business being available in the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ashton Jeanty at Round 1, Pick 12. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in No. 44, where Malaki Starks graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 76th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Jeffrey Bassa at the 149th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mitchell Evans in pick 171 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
They took Dont'e Thornton Jr. at par in pick No. 174, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Nazir Stackhouse, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 211 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at pick 239. A need, and now a little less of one.
Shemar James in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
