The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Ali has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Adonai Mitchell at No. 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Patrick Paul in the 68th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 3, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jamari Thrash in pick No. 137 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Jared Wiley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Caedan Wallace in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Rasheen Ali at the 231st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
