It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jasheen Davis in the Round 6 slot, a good 108 spots before the room expected him. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
On value alone, Mondon Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Jonathan Taylor pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Malaki Starks in the 44th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jihaad Campbell at the 76th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 14, with Jaylin Noel worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Darius Alexander is a better player than pick 148 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quincy Riley at slot 168 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Vernon Broughton higher than the Round 5 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Kobe Hudson in pick 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jasheen Davis in the 209th pick, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
