Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Dominic Zvada. He came off 85 spots early, and the room will hear about it. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Moore pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Steelers indulged a want in Shelton while a need in interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a matchup problem out wide, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Dillon Thieneman in the 53rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at pick No. 76. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Drew Shelton, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Drew Allar at pick 118 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devin Moore at No. 121 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for CJ Daniels in the 135th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 181 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Dominic Zvada, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They read the board right and Chase Roberts was the payoff at pick No. 224. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
TJ Hall in the 246th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
