The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Treydan Stukes slide 25 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They will need Allar to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Germie Bernard. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Eli Stowers was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 85, where Domonique Orange graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Kobi Lane at the 99th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Treydan Stukes at pick 121 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Drew Allar at No. 135, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dametrious Crownover at the Round 5 slot. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They took Riley Nowakowski at par in No. 216, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Aiden Fisher went about where he belonged in pick 224. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Robert Spears-Jennings in pick No. 230, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eli Heidenreich in the 237th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
