Nobody else had Jack Kelly anywhere near slot 230. The Steelers did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Getting Hurst where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Tre' Harris gives the group a proven body among the projects.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordyn Tyson in No. 26 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Gennings Dunker at the 53rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Keionte Scott at pick No. 77 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Domonique Orange in Round 3, Pick 22. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Germie Bernard at pick 91 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Kamari Ramsey at the 99th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Ted Hurst still on the board at the 121st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Drew Allar at pick No. 135 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Skyler Gill-Howard slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 21 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Dallen Bentley in No. 204; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Wright in pick 224, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Kelly well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
