A masterclass at the trade table lands the Steelers a B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Steelers spent the 161st pick on Logan Fano, a name the board had a full 96 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

McNeil-Warren at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 17
Value with a capital V on Jermod McCoy in the 25th overall pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 59
Germie Bernard at pick No. 76 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 85 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Skyler Bell · WR · rank 84
Skyler Bell at the 91st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 114
They jumped the gun on Keylan Rutledge, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Drew Allar in slot 121 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
They let Jack Endries come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 137
DeMonte Capehart in the 135th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.5 · Pick 145 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 146
Isaiah World at No. 145 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Logan Fano · DE-EDGE · rank 257
They reached a country mile for Logan Fano at slot 161, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.28 · Pick 168 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 161
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nate Boerkircher in the 168th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R6.35 · Pick 216 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 218
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Wright in pick 216, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 215
Tyren Montgomery in Round 7, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Jimmy Rolder · LB · rank 221
A tidy little value on Jimmy Rolder in pick No. 224, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · John Michael Gyllenborg · TE · rank 228
John Michael Gyllenborg at Round 7, Pick 21 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
