There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Patriots never got to the one that mattered most.
The cost of the Conerly Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Tetairoa McMillan went about where he belonged in the 4th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Mason Taylor at pick No. 69 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Belton in Round 4, Pick 4, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Etienne. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
