Thirty-one other rooms let Tatum Bethune slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 255. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Bortolini lower, and that gap is the story.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dallas Turner at pick 25 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A premium they did not need to pay, Devontez Walker a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Cole Bishop at slot 91, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at the 126th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanor Bortolini well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
M.J. Devonshire slipping to Round 6, Pick 27 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Trevin Wallace in the 219th pick, and the value did not follow. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They liked Tyler Owens enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 245. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
The board fumbled Tatum Bethune all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
