When a board-topper like Curtis Jacobs slides to pick No. 219, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Coleman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Ladd McConkey in the 25th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Payton Wilson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Melton in slot 88. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Cole Bishop at the 91st pick when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A quiet steal in No. 126: Sataoa Laumea for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Brandon Coleman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Daijun Edwards higher than pick 202, and the running back fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Curtis Jacobs in the 219th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Tyler Owens at pick No. 245 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A straight-up fair deal on Ryan Watts at No. 255, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
