Some picks age like wine; Solomon Byrd at pick No. 220 will need to, sitting 37 spots clear of his grade. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Bullard falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Payton Wilson at pick 49 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Javon Bullard, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 26. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Max Melton in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dominick Puni at the 89th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at slot 91 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Isaac Guerendo at slot 115 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Elijah Jones slid further than he should have, and pick 126 is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 27. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Bub Means at pick No. 219, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Solomon Byrd at the 220th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyler Owens in the 245th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rasheen Ali. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
