More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

The Dominique Hampton pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 32 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

Greenfield at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
Patrick Paul at pick No. 58 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 94
Caelen Carson slid further than he should have, and slot 105 is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 107
They did well to land Will Shipley in the 110th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
Mohamed Kamara in No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
They paid up for Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 169 when waiting would have done the job. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dominique Hampton · S · rank 234
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominique Hampton. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
A conviction pick on Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
They barely believed it either: Garret Greenfield still on the board at pick No. 245. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Bub Means · WR · rank 245
Bub Means in slot 255 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
