For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Packers walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins. If Cooper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at slot 41 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Xavier Worthy at the 58th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Elijah Jones come to them and pounced at the 126th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Malik Mustapha at par in No. 169, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Jared Wiley in pick No. 202 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Magee went about where he belonged in slot 219. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Kimani Vidal at No. 245 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Owens at the 255th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
