Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Packers never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If Hopper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in the 58th pick. The roster fit checks out.
They took Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jarrian Jones at slot 126 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 169. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Jared Wiley at No. 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Garret Greenfield at the 219th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Bub Means in slot 245; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Owens. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
