If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Eyabi Okie-Anoma at No. 219 is 66 spots clear of where he belonged.
They banked enough surplus on Hopper to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 41; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Christian Mahogany at slot 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jarrian Jones in Round 4, Pick 26 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to pick 169. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 202nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kimani Vidal in the 245th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bub Means at slot 255 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
