The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Bub Means went at slot 202, a good 43 picks before the board was ready.
On value alone, Grable makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A real need, handled.
Darius Robinson at slot 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in the 59th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in No. 88, where Max Melton graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Cole Bishop in Round 3, Pick 28, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Mohamed Kamara at pick 126 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Elijah Jones slipping to slot 127 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A big swing on Caedan Wallace at pick 188, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Bub Means in pick No. 202 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Kimani Vidal at No. 219, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Trevin Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid a round early for Solomon Byrd in the 245th pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 247th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Tylan Grable still on the board at No. 255. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
