The Packers torched the value chart for Tyler Owens, taking him 36 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They banked enough surplus on McCormick to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cole Bishop at No. 91 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Mason McCormick at pick 169 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Jared Wiley in the 202nd overall pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Tyler Owens at Round 6, Pick 44, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Edefuan Ulofoshio slid further than he should have, and No. 245 is lovely value for the linebacker. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value with a capital V on Bub Means in pick No. 255, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
