You could see the war room lean forward. Kendall Milton at the 252nd overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 15 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
T'Vondre Sweat is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 64 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: DJ James still on the board at No. 87. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow James Williams was still sitting there in the 159th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Anthony Gould at Round 5, Pick 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Kendall Milton in slot 252 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
