The Chiefs ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Every board in the league had Thomas Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a home-run threat at receiver, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 42 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Kris Jenkins at slot 64 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Roman Wilson in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Gabriel Murphy at the 92nd overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Nehemiah Pritchett in No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Braelon Allen slid further than he should have, and pick No. 171 is lovely value for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
