The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jason Marshall Jr., the No. 104 name on the board, in slot 126. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th pick they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elic Ayomanor at pick 70 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Etienne. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 102nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Jason Marshall Jr. was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 30, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Marques Cox in No. 158 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Jaheim Oatis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Brock Vandagriff, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
