The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Xavier Legette at slot 34 regardless, 40 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Zion Johnson leading the way.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Olumuyiwa Fashanu. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Spencer Rattler in pick 66 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at the 68th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Sedrick Van Pran in the 69th pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Khyree Jackson still on the board at slot 104. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in Round 4, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Theo Johnson at the 136th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Brennan Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 137th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Garret Greenfield in No. 182 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Joshua Cephus at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
