Nobody had Kedon Slovis this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 112 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 18. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Josh Myers leading the way.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Matt Goncalves in the 103rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Mason McCormick at Round 5, Pick 2 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fabien Lovett. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kedon Slovis at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
