The rest of the league will want that one back. Beau Brade tumbling to the Packers in pick 135 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 25, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Christian Mahogany in No. 88, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Marist Liufau in slot 91 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy little value on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 125th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Beau Brade at the 135th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach on Blake Watson in pick No. 203; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Maurice Smith. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Darius Muasau. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Joshua Cephus slid further than he should have, and No. 246 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
