The Eagles spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jarrian Jones, the No. 129 name on the board, in slot 169.
Reaching for Cooper left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. It is not that Trotter Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 1 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Calen Bullock went about where he belonged in pick 50. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Christian Mahogany at No. 97 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cedric Gray in the 137th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
