The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Mike Sainristil, the No. 66 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 95 like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Chiefs indulged a want in Smith while a need in tight end, quarterback and other spots stayed open. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Coleman in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 32 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves tight end, quarterback and other spots untouched.
No edge and no loss on Tahj Washington in No. 193; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Frank Gore Jr. all the way to pick No. 252, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
