The Cowboys bet big and early on Jowon Briggs, 53 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in No. 56, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 24, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 174th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Jowon Briggs in pick 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at slot 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Circle this one: Nathaniel Watson at pick 244 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
