You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with J.J. Weaver in pick No. 244.
The Washington steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Leonard Taylor III well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braelon Allen in No. 87 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Drake Nugent at pick 174 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in the 216th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Nathaniel Watson in pick No. 233, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, J.J. Weaver in Round 7, Pick 24 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
