The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for J.J. Weaver, 84 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Fashanu.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Olumuyiwa Fashanu in Round 1, Pick 24, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in slot 56, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Jaylen Wright was the payoff at No. 87. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Justin Rogers well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at the 216th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at pick 233. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in No. 244, with Tayvion Robinson worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
