New England Patriots

The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Alexander: B-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Zy Alexander slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at the 237th overall pick. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Adding Eric Stokes by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
In No. 27 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
They robbed the room for Ashton Jeanty here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Cameron Williams · OT · rank 29
Cameron Williams in slot 44 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 25
Jalon Walker at pick 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 76
Jayden Higgins at the 83rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 46
Colston Loveland in Round 4, Pick 4 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
R4.27 · Pick 128 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 13
Circle this one: Wyatt Milum at pick No. 128 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.2 · Pick 140 · Harold Fannin Jr. · TE · rank 35
Somehow Harold Fannin Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · Xavier Restrepo · WR · rank 49
You do not let a wide receiver like Xavier Restrepo reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Kyle Kennard · DE-EDGE · rank 78
Kyle Kennard at the 222nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.23 · Pick 237 · Zy Alexander · CB · rank 63
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
