The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Kinchens to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Alex Highsmith leading the way.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Xavier Legette and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Kamren Kinchens come to them and pounced at pick 39. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Tyler Guyton in No. 47, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on T'Vondre Sweat in the 63rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at slot 94 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
DeWayne Carter in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Nehemiah Pritchett went about where he belonged in pick No. 143. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Barrett at the 185th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
