You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.
The cost of the Driskell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Barrett at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Brandon Dorlus at the 64th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Marist Liufau come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Bishop in the 133rd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
LaDarius Henderson in slot 158 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylen Wright. The roster fit checks out.
Ethan Driskell in pick 172 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Michael Barrett in Round 6, Pick 31. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
