Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Packers to leave a draft.
Reed has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Dixon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at No. 41, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Haynes in Round 2, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dominick Puni in slot 88 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cole Bishop at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 126, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in the 169th pick with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Dixon at the 202nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trevin Wallace at No. 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They read the board right and Dominique Hampton was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 25. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value said wait; Austin Reed in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
