Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Evan Anderson at No. 245 is 37 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Tracy Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Nubin at pick No. 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Zach Frazier at the 59th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Ray Davis in slot 88, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in the Round 3 slot leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots for later.
They let Elijah Jones come to them and pounced at slot 126. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 127 on Beau Brade, a safety they were not short of.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is a better player than the 169th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Caedan Wallace in pick 202 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Evan Anderson at Round 7, Pick 25 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Jalen Coker in No. 255, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
