The Packers went off the board in a big way for Maliq Carr, 294 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Skattebo well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Shough in slot 199, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mario Williams this early at the 241st pick. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Ruben Hyppolite II in pick 250 is miles ahead of his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
