The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Roman Hemby, 53 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Hit on Tre Harris and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They jumped the gun on Dani Dennis-Sutton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Luke Kandra a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Shavon Revel Jr. at pick No. 96 that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dasan McCullough in the 129th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nazir Stackhouse in pick 160 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at the 193rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
